At just 16 years of age, Brent Smith residing in Sydney, Australia, is already showing all the early signs of a promising talent in the international downhill mountain bike scene. Oozing with speed and moto style that has transferred from a childhood of motocross racing, Brent makes riding a bike look effortless where others would normally struggle. Brent is at the top of his game for his age, and is one to look out for in the coming years on the Aussie race scene.

This project was by far the most fun and professionally shot I've worked on. We allowed ourselves plenty of time across multiple shoots and filmed across 5 tracks in Sydney to get a variety of footage. This project could not have been accomplished without the help of Brent's parents and the Shire Boys.

 Ty,

Personally in future, take the criticism, weather its good or bad. Arguing isn't going to get you anywhere. You want to come across professional right? arguing and getting all fired up with your mates on a forum isn't going to help your cause, Haters are gonna hate, its part of learning and moving forward with your filming. Don't let criticism affect you to much bro, just work on from it.

just pedal more and you'll be a lot faster.... style points doesnt get you far in racing. But good job!

He has the racing thing downpat. Plus you can't tell me you don't like to style it up in your free time?

ha i guess so. but if he wants to do good, while he's training i would focus on pinning it for the win

I don't know about you, but I would much rather see a kid getting out, having fun, and making it look more enjoyable and flowy with plenty of style. Seeing some kid pedal his tits off down a slope has been done to death, and this is the new era of film making.

But those are the kids that you see on the podium(Brosnan), the kids that "pedal their tits off" those are they hard workers and the ones that you see go far. Yeah its good to see a younger kid getting out and not really giving his all but putting some style to it, but thats not always the thing to do when it comes to National racing, if he wants to do good, he needs to "pedal his tits off!" lol

Mate you obviously know nothing because he is U17's state champion aswell as leading the NSW state series for U17. In nationals he is was on the podium each race finishing in the top 3 at the end of the series so you could say he knows how to pedal and has much more style then you will ever have. This video was more based on his sleek and smooth moto style than his all out speed.

flag DownhillDomination (Jul 2, 2011 at 2:24)
ZenZen summarised my arguement nicely. He's a fairly accomplished racer at a national level, and as stated above, this edit was not to showcase raw speed, more so just his style and ability on a bike AWAY from racing.
I don't know many riders who go race pace when they're out on a casual ride.
Not only that, but it's not really possible to pedal everywhere, and at times, quite impractical. You are also judging his speed on a bike due to the fact that in this edit, that is obviously an organised film session, and is not race footage, that he hardly pedals.
Deadset buddy, speed is not all about pedalling. This bike can pedal a bike real well, and trains pretty damn hard. This edit unfortunately was not produced to showcase raw speed and pedalling.

"Webbrider".....mate, you're an absolute drop bear!

The beauty of being part of a film project like this is that you don't have to 'pedal your tits off' and smash down the track at race pace....but instead it's a chance to throw down some style, send some roost flyin and perhaps hone your skills in pumping the bike whilst being smooth and fluid....(which i might add is a major part of "pinning it for the win" as you would say!) I'm sure the majority of people would rather watch a vid of some guy stylin it up rather than getting on the pedals everywhere he can.

Also, trust me when i say Brent does sufficient training....this kid lives on his bikes (dh, xc, dj, roadie, moto!)

How is it a joke Left right out of the coast visuals ???

flag LeftCoastVisuals Plus (Jul 1, 2011 at 18:17)
i'm not saying the video was a joke, it was fine, good edit, the vignette blur was a little to much but good video nonetheless.

me and samuelity were just commenting on the line describing a photo "Filming on set using the camera jib. A vast selection of gear was used throughout production of this edit to make it that little bit more professional"

sameuelity made the comment that "not to many people do that" he was being sarcastic, its ironic, because lots of filmers use a vast selection of gear to make their videos more professional, so the fact that they said it in the description is kind of pointless and neglectful in a sense. if that be a cable cam or a jib/crane. its just funny that the author of the post wrote what he did, it makes it sound like they are claiming to be the "first" or "claiming special status for the video" that might not have been the intention but thats how it came across.

I was stating that compared to my previous videos, I used a larger selection of gear, to make this edit more professional than my PREVIOUS ONES.
Terribly sorry for that. Maybe next time you'll enjoy an edit from me with less effort put in. Wink

ok ! great I misunderstood what you were saying! As an older guy I found it refreshing that this young film maker has constructed his own "home made" purpose built gear.

West Coast would I be correct to state that you have perhaps "produced" 4 edits? & now let's check how many Samuelsy has created? Then we too can write a critique on your paltry attempts

divion, i was not criticizing, i was offering an opinion, which surprisingly i am entitled to, then i explained my opinion to you, its not a big deal. get over it, i never said i was a better filmmaker so don't even bother getting into that.

so you should keep your mouth shut! correct!? cause you are after all a dumb Canadian armchair critic! Get out there with a cam for 3 weeks putting together an edit then you will have street & internet credibility ! You are a waste of space !

divion STFU! he never even said anything harsh in the first place! get over it! Left Coast has some sick stuff too, obviously not the best, but he is young just like the rest of em' i like some of it even more than this edit, that gives him enough street cred to at least say he disliked something a little, in the pinkbike etiquette it says if you offer critique's explain yourself, and he did so i dont know why you are reaming him out. and as far as " i find it refreshing that this young film maker has constructed his own "home made" purpose built gear" Left coast made a f'n cable cam, thats sick. Your an old man i dont see you making any edits so aren't you a dumb armchair critic as well? & "3 weeks to put together an edit this small? you gotta be kidding me"

flag divion (Jul 2, 2011 at 22:30)
& where the hell are you from! Are you ashamed to say??????

It oes to show what an ignoramus you are! 3 weeks to put an edit this small you say! no one is kidding here you moron! ! I imagine his parents taking him on site! sleeping arrangements! food! setting up! filming of course! ! Editing ! music choices etc! then of course uploading! Just imagine the commitment from Ty! and his parents both in the way of time, and money!
You have shown how very little you know about the filming process! and posting a clip on Pinkbike or on the net generally!

I bet you are another fuc###d American c##T no wonder the whole world wants to hate you arrogant pathetic guys! & who gives a shit about a cable cam! By the way wanker learn to spell! >>>> Your is in fact you're as in you are! Don't ever teach me about etiquette you looser!!!!!
